Service work — not a label deal

Copyright & ownership

Assignment runs engineer → client when the invoice is paid in full. It never runs client → iAi. Mix/master is a fee. It does not sign anyone to the label and it does not take publishing.

Two copyrights, kept by the client

  • Composition — song, lyrics, melody — stays with the writer(s) / publisher.
  • Sound recording — the master the client sent — stays with the client (or the client’s existing label).

What iAi assigns on full payment

Freelance mix work is not always a statutory work-made-for-hire in the U.S. So the agreement does both:

  • Treats the delivered mix/master files as commissioned work for the client to the extent the law allows; and
  • If that fails, iAi assigns every right it might have in those delivered files to the client, worldwide, when paid in full.

Until paid, finals stay with iAi and may not be commercially released. The deposit starts work. The deposit does not move copyright.

What iAi keeps

DAW session, plugin presets, templates, PhantomFocus calibration, and methods — unless the client buys a session-file delivery in writing.

Client warranty

The client owns or has a written license for every vocal, sample, loop, interpolation, featured performance, and any AI-generated audio in the session. iAi does not clear samples. The client indemnifies iAi Records and Italo Savaglio against claims from uncleared material they sent.

Credit and portfolio

Default credit: “Mixed and/or Mastered by Italo Savaglio at iAi Records / PhantomFocus System.” Client can opt out. After commercial release, iAi may use a short excerpt of that released version in a portfolio. Unreleased work is never posted.
